    Token help?

I am going to be running a Star Wars game on Foundry in a few weeks, and I need 6 tokens for six different BBEGS that I am going to plop in front of my players all at once. Two of these are going to be very visually distinctive and impossible to create with any character profile generation tools I've found online.

How do you guys handle character tokens for unique-looking characters? I do not want to resort to ChatGPT if I have other options.

For tokens themselves, I'll find some token border art on Pinterest or imgur or somewhere and grab it to throw into Krita and make work with my character. If you want a little more pizazz, have the bbeg overflow the token in a few spots. Like if they have maybe a bit weapon or horns, don't contain those in the border, have them poke out.

I use this site to turn things into tokens - https://rolladvantage.com/tokenstamp/ It takes whatever image you plop into it, so at that point you can turn anything you want into a token. As far as what to make the images with, I'm not entirely sure, since the ask is kinda vague. What are you looking for in the tokens?

What's your plan for the two visually distinctive ones you mention? Or is that what you're asking for advice with? Some more context detail might help, here

@calamitycastle The harder one is basically Doc Ock as a sith lord. Imagine: Soresu with 6 lightsabers.

The easier one is similar in spirit: mad scientist lawyer. Gold breastplate under a pinstripe suit. Sunglasses with scanning equipment. Lots of little details like that.

Obligatory reminder that you actually don't need token to play RPG 🙂 That said, I understand the appeal, especially on VTT where you can't keep eye contact with other players. The first option are generic tokens, can be the default one from your VTT, or simple colour. Then, while not ethically great, have a look at deviant art, Pinterest and other image sharing websites. You'll find many ressources some are even published on open source like licence. Even someone as unskilled as I am can use, The Gimp to turn an image into a token, it's overkill, but I am not going to look for a dedicated specialised app

Oh yeah then the options basically are you draw it, you nick some similar picture and photoshop it, you commission someone, or you use the image generator. I'd say for the token itself, I would hope it would not need to be so detailed. But if you want to show key art in full (I don't feel like specific sunglasses features are going to be visible on a token anyway), *then* you need a full image... I've tried the image generators for handout images before, the results were OK but it's still time consuming and there's obviously the environmental impact of what you're doing, which we have limited data on

If you don't want a generated image, pick a "base" from [itch](https://itch.io/search?classification=assets&q=sci-fi%20tokens&type=games) or [dtrpg](https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/browse?keyword=sci-fi%20tokens&productType=2200-maps-play-aids&src=fid2200) or some patreon creator token pack, make a copy and apply the tentacles in GIMP. It doesn't need to be photo-realistic, only needs to be recognizable and spark imagination

You might be able to use something like [Heroforge](https://www.heroforge.com/) to "build" your unique characters, and then make a token from the model. I dona similar thing when I come up with unique*ish* monsters that I can't find art for. That or go on Deviant art and pay a child savant to draw for you.

If the tokens are going to be relatively small I like something minimal then https://game-icons.net/ is pretty good for assorted icons (and you can colour them, though apparently only on large screens)

Same. I search the interwebs for images I like and then slap them into token stamp. The searching takes the longest.

Symbols can work if you're desperate. Like, just depict Malbad Von Sinister with a skull token. Sometimes it might work even better than a visual depiction if you want your PCs to imagine the guy instead

For Foundry I found it even easier to use the module "tokenizer" haven't used token stamp for a while because of it. https://foundryvtt.com/packages/vtta-tokenizer/
