LLMs are electric glazing machines.

LLMs are electric glazing machines. They are like those department store mirrors that make you look skinny. They flatter endlessly, never object, even when the user is very neural they produce statements that are positive value judgements on the content and ideas of the user.
And some people just... believe it. And why not?
Write a bad poem and ask an LLM to analyze it, it will find meaning in it, make you feel like Rita Dove.

@futurebird The other day I met a woman in a manic episode of bipolar disorder. Really, she said so. She also kept going on about “her AI” and the things it said to her, including advice. I told her, “You know that’s just statistics, right?” But she wasn’t having it.
Oy.

Some people have not had someone be kind to them, someone who tries to answer questions and be helpful. Someone who is excited about your ideas "Of course I can help you find out ..." in a long long time.
This could be due to the way they interact with others, or maybe they aren't grounded and it's off-putting, or they are surrounded by selfish people.
An LLM could be a very seductive voice.
Especially if you keep saying something and feel like no one listens.
