On the one hand, if you don't exercise your right to protest how do you know if it still exists?

On the other hand clashing with protests is something our president enjoys. His base enjoys it.
IDK if you want to protest, protest that the Epstein Files have not been released.
Release ALL the files.
Stop protecting those powerful men who still think they are above the law.

A big advantage to this protest is that when FOX decides to run some clips of horrible long hair'd hippies, all of the weird city people their viewers don't like getting beaten up by the police (they enjoy those videos) it will be hard to find one without a sign that says "Release the Files."
That kind of ruins it for them.
I kind of think "no kings" is walking into a trap and they are doing it because they tend to trust institutions and police too much.

Many very lovable middle class liberals think that if they want to protest and if they are polite and follow the rules and say "thank you" to the cops when they pass they won't end up smeared over the curb.
Because most of the time this is true. I don't think DC will be like this. I think it's an ugly powder keg.
At the same time. I am not someone who would tell anyone to give into fear. Just have your eyes open go into this with a clear head.

Your moderate wealth will not protect you.
Your college education and expertise will not protect you.
Your whiteness will not protect you.
Your valid US passport will not protect you.Go back and read about Kent State and the Freedom Riders again. That isn't ancient history it's a long-standing "American tradition" and the right has been seeking to recreate it.

@futurebird I hope in their planning, they’re making plans to help any activists that are arrested for peaceful assembly. But somehow, I doubt they are.

Who will protect you? Well I might try. Your friends should try.
We'll be the ones shouting for justice and trying to help cover your medical bills on the go fund me.
I just don't want anyone to suddenly learn just how bad things have gotten with a physical object lesson.
I've already seen enough people learn in that way.
Go in knowing that your image will be used to demonize everything you love. Go in knowing that it isn't safe.

I don't think they are THAT naive. But some of the people who might show up could be.

@futurebird thank you for making this important point clear. Having *release the epstein files* signs all over peaceful protests keeps the focus on who is provoking and harming

I mean it's something we all agree on. Everyone agrees.

The white moderate has such a sanguine attachment to the police state (as long as the right people are running it, natch) that it's probably an unvarnished good when they learn a hard lesson about what police are and why they exist.
This No Kings protest will teach everyone who goes that police are not there to "protect and serve", but to suppress the people and guard the ruling class. I, for one, welcome my newly radicalized compatriots

OK that is one way to teach about that. But also, they could just listen to what we are explaining right now.
