Indeed, it's so less glamorous than what conspirationist want to believe.
I think for some they will never think that the truth has been surfaced if there isn't something... elaborate and organized.
Not something that most people can find a version of at their church, or school, or in their extended family. (and shouldn't we focus on that a little more maybe?)
This is supposed to be the big evil. Masks should come off! Lizards emerge!

In a Dianne Sawyer interview with victims of Jean-Luc Brunel, Sawyer was mostly supportive and sympathetic but she did ask one pointed question that I still remember because it disturbed me:
"Didn't you know what you were getting in to?"
The models were girls 15 to 20 or so. They did NOT know. And as a woman in television I would have thought Sawyer would know that? But maybe she asked it because it's what "the viewers" would be wondering.

I wish I could find the interview because the answer the models gave was excellent. "Absolutely not" basically.
But it's some combination of "everybody knows" that creates the permission structure for this BS.

This kind of manipulation and abuse upsets nearly everyone. It's more galling to thinking about wealthy people doing it, but that isn't the only way children and young people are abused.
This was the entire point of talking about "rape culture" this was the whole point of #meToo
If you want a conspiracy try to understand how these ideas have been demonized and forgotten.
But, if you really want it to end that is the road.

I feel like the common reaction to really grotesque kinds of evil is to compartmentalize it and imagine that there is a unique, identifiable kind of monster who perpetrates it.If there isn't a cabal they're all a part of or some psychological affliction they all share, then you could be neighbors or friends with someone who is up to some really monstrous stuff and never know it. It is much scarier if the monsters aren't always Them and they can be one of Us, as well.
What's worse is that this routinely gets exploited. Abusers ingratiate themselves into a community, knowing that people will excuse and provide cover for their crimes because nobody who is one of Us could really be that bad, right? I mean, what would that say about Us?

Is classic rape culture. I'm really glad that I learned about the concept because it helps me to identify small and large things people do that make it easier for predators to operate.
And I think you are very right that I'm not presenting something as fun or oddly enough comforting as a group of unknowable evil people (better yet, ones you don't like already)
Instead, it's a bunch of personal responsibility.

It's just the notion held by many men, but especially rich and powerful men that they can do what they want to others.
That they can control others.
Such a man might offer to buy you a horse if you'd sleep with him. Or ruin your career. Some people seek out wealth and connections because they want exactly this type of power.
And the wild part is that they probably don't even realize that from the outside they start to look like a sinister cult.

It doesn’t take a global international secret conspiracy to do so many of the awful things our world is dealing with right now, it just takes those people actively and independently pursuing the very goals and values they have openly espoused, using the wealth and power they open hold and wield.

It'd be more exciting if it was a real cult with creepy robes and rituals and such.
