The difference between being unsafe and “feeling” unsafe is the difference between reality and a fever dream.

Every “law and order” push I have ever seen in my lifetime has accomplished one thing very well: to make people “feel” unsafe regardless of reality.

And feeling unsafe is all the permission most people need to step in line with the fascists and support the targeting and oppression of pretty much anyone.

“normally the victim would be a woman”

There’s enough misogynistic hatred in this movement that even the usual white woman victim doesn’t sit well with them, not surprising at all that they’re using a young pasty white techbro as their icon.

“Why do you think the rents are so high?”

Umm… to make real estate grifters rich, obviously.

That’s not what I’m saying. Let me be as clear as I can:

Trans people and migrants are saying that they would prefer a neighbour who voted for Democrats over one who didn’t vote because *they* are being directly harmed as a result of that choice.

I’m saying that if you are going to be critical of others over the result of their choices, you need to be willing to listen and engage with the results of your choices.

And I’m saying that the choice not to vote didn’t save a single child or adult in Gaza.

I am directly saying that reducing these choices to a black and white, “good” vs “bad” is profoundly distorting.

I’m also saying that if you think that anarchism means stepping outside of living in society as some kind of morally pure lone wolf, then you clearly don’t understand much about anarchism or people.

“Anarchists don't even think that people should vote!”
Ah well, “should” compared to the situation we’re in are night and day aren’t they?

So, it sounds to me like you’re saying you don’t mind much as things get truly awful because it exposes the rot in the system that must be dismantled?

If you say that, then you need to be willing to listen and accept responsibility for the people who are being specifically harmed under this administration, who would not be under another one, otherwise in my books you aren’t much different from the BlueMAGA you complain about.

*Every* action has consequences - vote for A, vote for B, don’t vote at all - and a mature politics accepts and recognizes those consequences. 🤷‍♂️

I didn’t vote because I’m not an American. But suggesting that 2024 was a vote for or against the (obvious to anyone with eyes and ears) genocide implies that there was an actual choice available on that issue. It appears America is hell-bent on arming a genocide regardless of who holds office. But I don’t somehow admire Bibi and his ministers for “being honest” about his intent to wipe Gazans off the map, not do I give Trump a pass or props somehow for “being honest” about his corruption.

All leaders of this particular imperial state are *not* equal. Grift, pay-back, corruption are 100-fold worse under Trump than any recent point in history. Folks who “admire”Trump for “being honest” are simply admitting that they too are transactional and supremacist; they think they will come out on top once the need to follow those pesky and inconvenient rules are stripped away.

For anyone who needs it pointed out: Air Canada was expecting people to be upset about flight disruptions, and they were counting on people to blame the workers.
So… make sure you tell your friends and neighbours that Air Canada expects flight attendants to do a bunch of work for free, and that you support workers in demanding fair pay for the work they do.

I recall reading a study that presented ‘juries’ with audio-video testimony, just audio, just transcript, and then transcript converted to standardized english (removing colloquialisms, dialect, gender markers, etc). At each step the juries did better at reaching the ‘proper’ verdict.

It seems like (at least in today’s world), removing all the ‘nuance’ people employ in their prejudices far outweighs other nuance they might miss.

It doesn’t take a global international secret conspiracy to do so many of the awful things our world is dealing with right now, it just takes those people actively and independently pursuing the very goals and values they have openly espoused, using the wealth and power they open hold and wield.
