I think it's a mistake to go get crime statistics; it has nothing to do with crime statistics (not in any plausible way) and an awful lot to do with externalised fears.
@futurebird The much-missed Aoife looked like a void cat but her fur was composed of individual strands which were a neutral gradient from nearly white near the skin to void black on the ends.
No matter what colour something was, her fur would show on it.
@futurebird @atrupar If you view the Republicans accurately (and want to live in a democracy), it's not just a civil war it's "God will know his own"; if you want democracy (or a habitable planet), you have to break the cultural continuity of white supremacy, patriarchy, capitalism, and the Oil Empire.
"Norms and decency" allows people to continue to construct self-respect despite NOT wanting to live in a democracy. People mostly want a guarantee of stable status, not a better world.
